Installing the Web Platform Installer (if ALL Prerequisites are Installed)

  1. Open the Internet Information Server (IIS). In the left tree, navigate to the Default web site.
  2. From the Default web site, select Web Platform Installer.
  3. After the Web Platform Installer opens, click on Options (at the bottom of the dialog). This action opens the Change Options dialog.
  4. Leave the Primary Feed as default.
  5. To the Custom Feed, type in: http://nugget/arellia.com/WebPlatformFeed*. Select the *Add Feed button.
  6. From Advanced web application support, enable configuration of all web application parameters.
  7. From Remote Database Support, click to enable remote database support.
  8. Enter the Remote database server name.
  9. To close the Change Options dialog, click OK. This action loads the Web Platform Installer.

To Complete Installation of the Arellia Management Server using the Web Platform Installer

This document tells you how to complete the Thycotic Management Server (TMS) installation if your target machine is connected to the Internet.

If your target machine is not connected to the Internet, then go to Offline Installation for installation instructions.

Install Microsoft Web Platform Installer

After you have reviewed and followed the instructions in both Server Requirements and Database Requirements, install Microsoft Web Platform Installer (Web PI) by doing the following steps:

  1. Open Web PI and click Options in the bottom right corner of the window.

    You must open the Options menu directly in the Web PI, not from the Internet Information Services (IIS) (see Error saving Web Platform Settings in IIS for more information). 

  2. In the Change Options dialog box, in the Customer Feeds field type http://nuget.arellia.com/WebPlatformFeed, then click the Add Feed button, and then click OK.

    The following steps 3 and 4 are required only if you want the Web PI to set up the SQL database and login. If you enable remote database support, then the Web PI will require your SQL Server System Administrator (SA) account password to proceed.

     



  3. (This step is optional.) In the Change Options dialog box, scroll down to Remote Database support and select the Click to enable remote database support check box if you want the Web PI to provision your database configuration.
  4. (This step is optional.) In the Remote database server name field, enter the name of your SQL Server. (Note: If your SQL Server is local, then enter localhost.)
  5. Close the Change Options dialog box by clicking OK.

  6. Close the Web PI.
  7. Open the IIS Manager.
  8. In the IIS Manager, in the left sidebar directory, click Default Web Site.

  9. In the Default Web Site Home pane, scroll down and double-click Web Platform Installer.

  10. In the Web PI, click the Thycotic tab.

  11. From the drop-down box under "What type of database would you like to use?" Select the Remote SQL Server.
  12. Target the service account (sa) on that database server, then type in the password for that server. Click Continue. This action displays a screen detailing all of the items that I have chosen to install and all of the prerequisites that are necessary to install at this time.
  13. If If certain prerequisites aren't installed such as certain SQL plugins or WebDeploy 3.5, the Web Platform Installer and IIS will close and you will have to open them both again, and in some cases, a reboot of the computer is required. It is absolutely best to have all of the prerequisites installed beforehand.
  14. To begin the Installation, click the I Agree button. This action begins the installation of all prerequisites that you are installing at this time.
  15. The Web Platform Installer Configure screen appears. Included in the Configure Screen are all options and fields for the database, with all field already filled in. At this time, you can create a new database password for the AMS user. Additionally a Database Name will be created, and later the Database Name, Database User, and Database Password can be randomized. Click Continue. This action installs the Arellia Management Server. A status bar appears, showing how long the installation is taking.
  16. When the Arellia Management Server is done installing, the Finish screen appears, displaying the following information:

    14. Web PI will include any missed prerequisites in the installation. Certain dependencies such as Windows Management Framework or the .NET Framework may require you to restart your computer. If so, then restart Web PI via the IIS Manager when the restart has completed.

    15. The Web PI Configure screen will appear. Configure the TMS application and then click Continue.

    17. When the installation is complete, click Finish.

    18. Next, the Thycotic Management Server needs to be pointed at the existing database. This can be done by executing the following steps:

    1. Log into the Thycotic Management Server Setup Console (http://localhost/Ams/).

      The Web Platform Installer takes you automatically to the database setup page, but if it did not, then navigate to https://localhost/Ams/Setup/Database/ConnectDatabase/.

    2. In the SQL Server field, enter the FQDN of the database server. 
    3. In the Database Name field, enter the database name Arellia should use.
    4. In the User name and Password fields, enter the database owner credentials.

    19. Click Next.

    The database will then be configured and Thycotic products can then be installed.

     


    If you need to create the SQL database 

    If you have access to the SQL Server SA credentials and you want to create the database automatically, then then click the following link to proceed with the steps.

    11. Click the Add button to the right of the Thycotic Management Server (Database Wizard) and Thycotic Diagnostics 8.2.

    12. Click the Install button.

    13. In the SQL Prerequisites dialog box that opens, select your remote SQL Server from the What type of database would you like to use menu.

    14. Enter the SA account password for the selected SQL Server.

    15. Because this is a one-time process, you do not have to save the password.

    16. Click Continue

    17. This action opens the Web Platform Installer Prerequisites dialog and lists all components that are to be installed.

    18. To begin the installation, click the I Agree button.
