Getting Started

The Getting Started tasks guide you through the basic setup, configuration, and use of Application Control Solution. There are two methods for performing most tasks: the Quick Start page and the Altiris Console. The Altiris Console is the primary interface for Altiris solutions and provides access to all solutions.

The Quick Start page provides access to the getting started tasks in a central location and opens automatically after Application Control Solution is installed.

You can also open the Quick Start page manually by doing the following:

1. In the Altiris Console, click the Tasks tab.
2. In the left pane, select Tasks > Quick Starts.
3. In the right pane, select Application Control Solution Quick Start.

Prerequisites for Getting Started tasks

• Notification Server 6.0 SP3, with Hotfix Rollup 5
• Application Control Solution 6.1 installed on the Notification Server. See Installation (page 6)
• Altiris Agent rolled out to managed computers. See Notification Server Help
• Task Management

Exercise scenario

You are a system administrator. Your IT manager asked you to add a new layer of security to your environment using Application Control Solution. You have to:

• Roll out the File Inventory and Application Control agents
• Review inventory of all applications on all Windows* computers in your environment
• Create an Application Control policy to improve security
• Track all actions taken by the solution on applications
