Installation and Planning of the Arellia Management Server

Design

The AMS server is comprised of a number of extensible .NET components that run on Internet Information Server (IIS), along with agent components that install as a service on the managed computers.

The server utilizes Microsoft SQL Server as a database. You can either install it locally on the AMS server or remotely (off-box).

Planning

We recommend a dedicated a server for AMS to use, rather than sharing with other services. However, depending on your load, it will function without issues in a small or test environments as long as the prerequisites are met and do not conflict with other services on the server.

Installation Order

  • Setup Internet Information Server (IIS)
  • Setup Microsoft Web Platform Installer
  • Setup Microsoft SQL Server
  • Setup the Arellia Management Server

If you install the Web Platform Installer before you install IIS, the Web Platform Installer will NOT be available on your Internet Information Server (IIS).

Interacting with the Server

Once the server is installed, most work can be performed from your desktop browser without the need to remotely access the server console, including setting up the database and installing products on the Arellia Management Server (AMS).

Before Beginning your Installation

For all system prerequisites, see Server Requirements.

To install the server, seeĀ Arellia Management Server Installation.

To install the agent, see Installing the Arellia Management Agent.
