File inventory agent configuration
The File Inventory Policy discovers information about software programs running on managed computers.
To manually run the File Inventory Policy on a managed computer at any time, perform the following steps:
- Enable Power Management on the Altiris Agent. For instructions, see Notification Server Help.
- On any grid listing managed computers, a report, collection, or Resource Manager, right-click the computer name.
- Select File Inventory > File Inventory Policy > Run File Inventory.
To access the File Inventory Policy do the following steps:
- In the Altiris Console, select the Configuration tab.
- In the left pane, select Configuration > Solution Settings > Software Management > File Inventory > Windows > File Inventory Agent Configuration.
The following table describes the items in the policy page.
Item | Description |
---|---|
Enable | Select to enable the policy. |
Name | Name of the policy. |
Description | Description of the policy. |
Applies to | Select the collection this policy applies to. |
Interval | Select the time period between each running of the policy. |
File Specification(s) | Specify what files are reported to the Notification Server. |
Priority | Enter a policy priority to determine the policy's order in relation to other policies. Priority 1 is the highest and will run first. |
Per file delay | Specify the number of milliseconds between processing individual files. |
To create a new File Inventory Agent Configuration policy
- In the Altiris Console, select the Configuration tab.
- In the left pane, select Configuration > Solution Settings > Software
Management > File Inventory > Windows. - In the left pane, right-click File Inventory Agent Configuration and select New
> File Inventory Policy. - In the right pane, enter policy details and an interval in the fields provided.

File inventory agent package page
This page lets you create a package used by File Inventory Agent installation policies as needed when performing an agent rollout or uninstallation. Generally, we recommend not changing any settings to this package. This page is configured the same as the Application Control Agent. See Application Control Agent Package Page (page 33).
File inventory agent upgrade page
This is a generic policy that can be used for several things, including agent rollout and uninstallation, and solution agent rollout, upgrade, and uninstallation. It is configured the same as the Application Control Agent. See Application Control Agent Upgrade Page (page 39).
File inventory agent uninstall
This page is the similar to the File Inventory Agent Install and File Inventory Agent Upgrade pages with the Program Name being the only difference. For information, see Application Control Agent Upgrade Page (page 39).
