Application Compatibility action applies the dynamic application of Microsoft Application Compatibility shims to a target application. After analyzing Application Compatibility testing logs and creating an elevation policy using the Adjust Application Compatibility wizard, which creates both the policy and the action, a new Application Compatibility action is created in the Application Compatibility folder. Some older programs might run poorly or not at all on a newer operating system. The Application Control Solution includes actions that can test whether applications in your environment are compatible with a new operating system, and can also apply compatibility fixes for target applications.

Using the Application Compatibility Testing policy, you can target specific directories (all directories except for the Windows directory) and a specific subset of computers. After you choose your targets, you must apply a compatibility testing action. All of this is done without the knowledge of end users.

The Application Compatibility folder contains the following actions:

Application Compatibility Testing - automatically finds and analyzes potential compatibility issues with the applications in your environment and helps create application compatibility policies that can be used to fix the application compatibility issues when the application runs on a newer operating system.

Enable UAC Virtualization - turns of UAC virtualization for this target process.

Java - Win 2000

Virtualize Registry for Arellia Malicious Demo Application Compatibility

Tip
titleNote

If you have legacy software running on Windows 7, then you will use the Application Compatibility action to allow that software to work without manual compatibility adjustments.
