Installation and Planning of the Arellia Management Server

Design

The Arellia Management Server (AMS) comprises a number of extensible .NET components that run on Internet Information Services (IIS), along with agent components that install as a service on the managed computers.

The server utilizes Microsoft SQL Server as a database. You can install it locally on the AMS or remotely (off-box).

Planning

We recommend you use a dedicated server for AMS, rather than sharing with other services. However, depending on your load, it will function without issues in a small or test environments as long as the prerequisites are met and do not conflict with other services on the server.

Before You Install the AMS

Before you install the AMS, ensure that your server meets all the requirements.

For all system prerequisites, see Server Requirements.

To install the agent, see Installing the Arellia Management Agent.

Installation Order

Install the following components in the following order:

  1. IIS
  2. Microsoft Web Platform Installer
  3. Microsoft SQL Server
  4. AMS (see Arellia Management Server Installation)

If you install the Web Platform Installer before you install IIS, the Web Platform Installer will not be available on your IIS.

Interacting with the Server

After you install the server you can perform most work, such as setting up the database and installing products on the AMS, from your desktop browser without remotely accessing the server console.
