Design

The AMS runs on Windows-based servers. It comprises a number of extensible .NET components that run on Internet Information Services (IIS), along with agent components that install as a service on the managed computers.

The server utilizes Microsoft SQL Server as a database. You can install it locally on the AMS or remotely (off-box).

Setup

We recommend you install the AMS on a dedicated server, rather than sharing with other services. However, depending on your load, it will function without issues in a small or test environments as long as the prerequisites are met and do not conflict with other services on the server.

Knowing what needs to be installed on the server is critical. Install the following components in the following order:

  1. SQL Database (if used locally)
  2. IIS
  3. Microsoft Web Platform Installer
  4. AMS

Important

You must install IIS before you install the Web Platform Installer.

Interacting with the Server

After you install the server you can perform most work, such as setting up the database and installing products on the AMS, from your desktop browser without remotely accessing the server console.

Next Steps

Next, make sure you have satisfied all the server and database requirements before you install the AMS. Review the following documents:

Server Requirements

Database Requirements

After you confirm that your systems meet the requirements, go to Install the Arellia Management Server for further instructions.
