Upgrade from Arellia 7.1 to 7.5

Background

Previous Arellia solutions were integrated on the Symantec Management Platform and therefore exclusively available to only Altiris\Symantec customers.  With the release of 7.5, however, Arellia Solutions run on an independent management server.

A few key highlights of Arellia 7.5 include:

  • Highly scalable and flexible management server
  • Integrations with LanDesk, Microsoft System Center, and Symantec Management Platform
  • Extensibility via Microsoft PowerShell and Windows Workflow Foundation
  • Helpdesk View for password disclosure and application authorization for disconnected computers
  • Comprehensive API’s for integration with other leading management and security platforms.

“The Arellia team has a long history in building and delivering enterprise class solutions while at Symantec, Altiris, and Computing Edge,” said Michael Sainsbury, Arellia CEO. “This release takes nearly two decades of enterprise management experience and provides a flexible and scalable management server for endpoint security.”  (Read more from our Press Release)

Considerations

If you are upgrading from SMP 7.1 to SMP 7.5, you can install Arellia 7.1 SP3 on SMP 7.5 by using our Compatibility Pack.

The more appropriate long-term solution would be to upgrade SMP 7.1 to 7.5 and install the Arellia Management Server either on the same server as SMP or on a separate server. Both are supported by Arellia. The Arellia Management Server is a lightweight Web Application that can coexist on a Windows Server with other Applications without any issues.

Arellia Management Server and Symantec Management Platform Interactions

The Arellia Management Server can pull computers and collections from both the 7.1 and 7.5 Symantec Management Platforms, and then use those collections/computers for Arellia Policy targets.
