Issue

How to upgrade Arellia solutions when moving from an SMP 7.0 to an SMP 7.1 server.

Resolution

We have released our products on 7.1 and our minimum required version is 7.1 MP1.  Anything above that is supported.

  • Migration to 7.1 follows the standard SMP 7.1 migration path.  Please see the Symantec site for SMP 7.0 to 7.1 upgrade information - SMP 7.0 to 7.1 migration is a place to start.
  • Our policies and other SMP items are the same from 7.0 to 7.1 with the exception of Application Initiation policies.  These have been eliminated.  All existing ACS Application Initiation Policies are automatically converted to standard Application Control Policies on the install of ACS 7.1 MP1.  Please see item ACS-108 in the ACS 7.1 MP1 release notes .
    • If the database is upgraded then that should be all that is necessary.
    • If a new database is used then the policies and filters and actions can be exported from the 7.0 db and imported to the 7.1 db.  Whitelists however will generally have to be recreated.
  • There of course will need to be good testing as everyone has different configurations.
